TRENDING @BAMAENGINEERING
COE faculty, staff and students brought the energy
during the past year. From jaw-dropping innovations
to impressive accolades, these are the memorable
moments that made us smile. Let’s look back on some
of the posts that kept our feeds buzzing!
Our students thrive under pressure!
A team of students advised by Dr.
Sriram Aaleti, associate professor in the
department of civil, construction and
environmental engineering, competed in
the national Big Beam Competition
recently, taking home third place! Two UA
teams each designed a 20-foot precast,
prestressed concrete beam, then tested
how much pressure it would take to
break it, applying more than 41,000 lbs.
Congratulations to the winning team
members: Tu Luong, Chas Sanford,
Bobby Bryant, Austin Castleberry,
Xi Chen and Bryce Payne!
The Crimson Racing team put their skills to the test at the 2025
FSAE Michigan competition, finishing 8th overall out of 110 teams.
The team successfully passed all technical inspections and competed in
all four dynamic events: acceleration, skidpad, autocross and endurance.
They were awarded the Cummins Sustainable Power and Performance
Excellence Award, earning first place for their innovative vehicle design
and commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
The Alabama Astrobotics team recently wrapped an incredible run at
NASA’s 2025 Lunabotics Challenge! Their robot, MARTE-C, competed
in a simulated lunar environment at Kennedy Space Center, where the
team earned first in project management, second in autonomy and third in
mining/construction. They also received honorable mentions in the technical
presentation and systems engineering categories.
Each year, The University of Alabama
National Alumni Association honors
outstanding alumni with the 18 Under 31
Young Alumni Awards in recognition of
their vital impact on their industry, field or
community. We are so proud that two of our
amazing @bamaengineering alumni were
recognized this year. Congratulations to
Piper Daniels ‘19 and Michael Dunn ‘17!
Your accomplishments are proof that our
alumni are truly legendary!
