The Cube
Designed to support everything from class
projects to competitive design teams, The Cube
blends cutting-edge equipment with a culture of
creativity, giving students the tools to turn ideas
into reality.
At the heart of the space housed in H.M. Comer
Hall are additive and subtractive manufacturing
tools that allow students to bring their ideas to life.
Rows of FDM 3D printers, including a dozen new
models from Bambu Labs, give students access
to high-speed, high-quality fabrication equipment.
For those working with wood, metal or other rigid
materials, The Cube offers two desktop mills and
a large-format three-axis router table—all key
tools for subtractive manufacturing and
precision prototyping.
The Cube recently received a donated FaroArm
3D scanner, a coordinate measuring machine
commonly used in aerospace and automotive
industries. This tool allows students to scan
physical parts with precision, making it ideal
for reverse engineering or inspecting complex
components.
A new student favorite within The Cube is the
racing simulator. Donated by alumnus John M.
Allen IV, the simulator offers a professional-grade
virtual racing experience. While teams such as
Crimson Racing and Bama Racing use it to qualify
and train drivers for competitions, the setup is
available to all engineering students with basic
safety training. The excitement surrounding this
addition highlights The Cube’s ability to engage
students and foster collaborative exploration.
Beyond machines and technology, The Cube
is a community. Whether students are designing,
tinkering or testing ideas, the space encourages
creativity and teamwork. The Cube continues to
serve as a launchpad for student-driven innovation,
equipping the next generation of engineers to
design, build and explore like never before.
